FYI – You may need the latest version of the iPhone firmware and iTunes for this to work.

The process is Garage Band is remarkably easy. Big win for Apple. I’ve shared this with a bunch of friends today and they are very happy and excited to have custom ringtones on the iPhone again.

Hey I just tried this with 1.11 and it iTunes 7.5 and it says that the file can not be copied because it can not be played on the iPhone?
Suggestions?

It doesn’t appear to work with older versions. Someone else had the same issue and it worked fine after they updated.

On old firmware you just need to rename the file frome m4r to m4a
(transfered to iphone using IToner)

How do you do the right-click on a macbook? Can you explain the process please? Need CTU in my life!!!

@ Sam : Right click on a macbook : Hold ctrl key and hit the button attached to the track pad!! Better yet, go to Sytem Prefs -> Keyboard and Mouse – > Check the checkbox that says ‘Tap Trackpad using two fingers for secondary click” . Now just hit the trackpad with 2 fingers (at the same time) to get a right click!!

It wont work, it needs to be less than 30 seconds to work with the latest versions, this is too long to work as a ringtone

Still works for me with the latest updates. Also, Garageband will not let you export a ringtone that is longer than 30 seconds, so it should be that size already.

I’m a new iPhone owner and had the 24 ringtone on my Blackberry 8830. I spent 2 hours this AM trying to get the ringtone and all the sites want to rip you off by charging a monthly fee. I came across your website early this evening and was so pleased to be able to download the ringtone. I am 63 and trying to keep up technologically………..thank you

So I downloaded it to iTunes and it synced with my iPhone and I even selected it as my custom ringtone but it doesn’t work. I get that mamba crap when the phone rings. What did I do wrong?

Thanks! For MAC folks, download to desktop, change file name by deleting .txt on end of name. Then say yes when computer asks are you sure. Double click on file, it should auto load into your ringtones folder.

No thank you so much – at last!! I just got my new iphone 3g and have wanted the ctu ringtone ever since I saw the first season. And now, hopefully, I can get it on my iphone. I am really excited.
Now, if someone wanted to make me very happy, I have been after for years the original sound for the Pearl and Dean ident. Does anyone know if this was ever made as a ring tone??

Hi,
Never been able to download the file.
On my MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.4.11, the link displays as a very long webpage full of garbage.
Already have a CTU Ringtone on my desktop that was on my Blackberry. Changed the extension for .m4r and another for .m4a
iTunes 8 refuses to import any of them.
Anyone can help me?

What am I doing wrong??? I’ve command S, control clicked, double finger and \saved as\ to desktop. I can’t copy it to ringtones. It’s either a bunch of text or a copy of the website. Please help me. I have all current updates, 3g iphone, and brand new mac book.

Well I can save it to my desktop and open under quicktime to hear it, but I can’t get to itunes. Do I need a special program or a Mac Pro? I am knew to the Mac so if someone could pleas walk me trough the proper steps? Thank you i need this so baaaad!

Okay !!!! I got it for all us Mac newbies or others with problems. When you save it (I saved it to desktop) you have to right click the saved file and go to “Get Info” once it opens up that window go under the Name and Extensions field and erase the “txt.” part of the file name. It will then ask you if you want to use the file as an “m4r” when you select that option it will convert the text to it itunes friendly file which you can then just drag and drop to itunes ringtone and TA FREAKIN DA!

Works great on the download and install. Though not a fan of 24 (sorry I really liked ‘The Unit’ myself), this ringtone transcends most ambient and loud noises. I am able to hear this over most everything else, but in itself it is not rude or obtrusive.

Great ringtone. Funny story. My kids were over in Scotland (we’re from Canada) and they heard this ring at the airport on someones phone. They turned around quickly thinking that I had somehow flown over there. Distinctive ring indeed.

this is FANTASTIC! What a great way to bring holiday cheer!
One question. What can you do on the “chirp” from the tv show “The Unit” I found it on a few sites, but only one site had the real one, but for some reason it either wont loop on the phone and only chirps once, or it wont go on at all! It’s made on all sites for windows based phones. I am clueless.
